Better Performance in Abrasive Blasting Applications
Staurolite sands are effective abrasives for removing weathered coatings, rust, and mill scale due to their hardness.
The Chemours Starblast™ line, which includes Starblast™ and Starblast™ XL, features premium products that can be used in a broad range of blasting applications
Starblast™ Abrasive Products from The Chemours Company
Starblast™ blasting abrasives are a blend of coarse and fine staurolite sands that are well-graded and have clean, rounded to sub-angular surfaces. Mined from The Chemours Company's mineral deposits in the southeastern United States, these naturally occurring sands are washed to eliminate dirt, dust, and ultrafines. Readily available in packages and in bulk, Starblast™ and Starblast™ XL are the best products on the market for preparing new steel surfaces.
Features and Benefits
The Starblast™ line of abrasive blasting material offers many benefits over alternative options for sandblasting, water jet cutting, and vapor blasting. These products are California Air Resources Board (CARB) certified and SSPC AB-1 certified.
Both of these products contain very low free silica—Starblast™ abrasive media is guaranteed to contain <3% free silica (typically <2%), while Starblast™ XL is guaranteed to contain <1% free silica. Starblast™ XL is also QPL approved for MIL-A22262B-SH.
Additional benefits of Starblast™ and Starblast™ XL abrasive media include:
- Greater blasting visibility due to minimal dust generation
- Lower labor costs through faster, more-efficient blasting
- Less material costs due to recyclability
- More uniform blasting pattern
- Sub-rounded to sub-angular grains result in less abrasive embedment
- Electrically nonconductive
Starblast™ blasting abrasives are a general-purpose abrasive media. They are used in steel fabrication and maintenance blasting to remove rust, mill scale, and weathered coatings as well as surface preparation of other substrates, such as aluminum, concrete, and stainless steel.
Starblast™ XL, with less than 1% free crystalline silica, meets the most stringent industry and military specifications.
Due to their density and hardness, Starblast™ abrasives are also effective in vapor blasting applications.
The density and uniformity of Starblast™ XL makes it an effective water jet cutting abrasive.
Starblast™ abrasives are available in:
- 50-pound multiwall paper bags
- Semi-bulk (1-ton and 2-ton) bags
- Bulk hopper rail cars
- Bulk pneumatic trucks
