Natural Polymers LLC to use Opteon™ 1100 in New Low GWP Spray Foam Formulations

The Use of Opteon™ 1100 Will Allow for Natural Polymers to Provide a New Line of Spray Foam Solutions with Superior Insulation Performance and Lower Global Warming Potential

WILMINGTON, Del., October 25, 2016 – The Chemours Company (Chemours) (NYSE: CC), a global chemistry company with leading market positions in titanium technologies, fluoroproducts and chemical solutions, announced today that Natural Polymers LLC has chosen Opteon™ 1100 foam blowing agent for use in its new line of low global warming potential (GWP) spray foam insulation solutions. Opteon™ 1100 will enable Natural Polymers to develop formulations with superior insulation improvement as well as lower environmental impact.

Opteon™ 1100 meets Natural Polymer’s need for a non-flammable, high efficiency and low GWP blowing agent for use in polyurethane foams. Opteon™ 1100’s excellent thermal conductivity and spray-ability help Natural Polymers improve the performance of its foam insulation, while it’s low GWP enables them to support their customers in helping meet the upcoming regulatory driven conversions across North America.  In addition, the unique chemical structure of Opteon™ 1100 provides outstanding stability and versatility, thus maximizing the range of customer formulations, especially in challenging weather conditions as seen by Natural Polymers in their Midwest market.

“The performance and environmental benefits of Opteon™ 1100 made it an excellent choice when we were developing our new low GWP spray foam insulation formulas”, said Ben Brown, President of Natural Polymers.  “The product’s ease of application, dimensional stability and enhanced energy performance allowed for us to meet our goal of delivering high quality insulation that still meets the changing regulatory landscape across the world.”

“The selection of Opteon™ 1100 by Natural Polymers is another example of how spray foam formulators throughout the industry have realized the performance and environmental benefits of this game changing product”, said Diego Boeri, vice president Chemours Fluorochemicals.  “We see Opteon™ 1100 as the next generation, high performance blowing agent for the insulation foam industry and its continued adoption by innovative system houses only helps to confirm this vision.”

Chemours recently announced that it is close to starting up the world’s first full-scale production facility for HFO-1336mzz, which is the chemical name for Opteon™ 1100. This facility will begin production mid-year 2017 and will add capacity for low GWP foam blowing agents and refrigerants. Chemours is the announced capacity leader for products based on HFO-1234yf and this new facility will help further strengthen the company’s ability to help meet the growing global demand for Opteon™ branded products.

The Opteon™ portfolio of fluorochemicals from Chemours represents a breakthrough line of low GWP solutions. They were developed to help meet increasingly stringent global regulations while generally maintaining or improving performance compared to the products they replace. As the leading supplier of more environmentally sustainable foams, refrigerants and aerosol propellants, Chemours has and continues to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to develop this portfolio of new products and additional capacity as the need for low GWP solutions grows throughout the world.
