Chemours Wins BASF Sustainable Supplier of the Year Award

Opteon™ 1100 from Chemours provides BASF with a High Performance, Low Global Warming Potential Foam Blowing Agent for Spray Foam Applications

WILMINGTON, Del., April 6, 2016 – The Chemours Company (“Chemours”) (NYSE: CC), a global chemistry company with leading market positions in titanium technologies, fluoroproducts and chemical solutions, announced today that it has won the Sustainable Supplier of the Year Award from BASF.

BASF announced the award at its annual supplier award dinner at the company’s Florham Park, N.J. headquarters. Chemours was nominated for the award for its supply of Opteon™ 1100 foam blowing agent, which allows BASF to develop non-flammable, high efficiency and low global warming potential (GWP) spray foam formulations that offer both increased performance and better environmental properties.

“We are proud to accept this award from BASF as it recognizes Chemours as a leader in the development of high performance, yet sustainable hydrofluorolefin-based solutions,” said Joe Martinko, global business manager, Opteon™ Fluorochemicals. “It’s clear that BASF sees Opteon™ 1100 as part of a game-changing spray polyurethane foam formulation that will reduce climate change impact through its much lower GWP, and also by improving energy efficiency.”

Opteon™ 1100 (formerly Formacel™ 1100) foam blowing agent meets the long-term needs of polyurethane foam customers for non-flammable, high efficiency, GWP solutions. Opteon™ 1100 offers extremely low global warming potential, zero ozone depletion potential, excellent thermal insulation performance and improved R-value, allowing for greatly reduced energy consumption and far lower greenhouse gas emissions.

The increased shelf-life of Opteon™ 1100 lets formulators and installers spray insulation without worrying about yield losses, poor reactivity, or the cost and disposal of unused foam kits. The first in-field application of spray foam formulated with Opteon™ 1100 in a residential home was recently completed in Austin, Texas through a collaborative effort between Chemours and BASF.

Chemours recently announced that it has broken ground on the world’s first full-scale production facility for HFO-1336mzz, which is the chemical name for Opteon™ 1100. This site, expected to begin production mid-year 2017, will add capacity for low GWP foam blowing agents and refrigerants. Chemours is already the capacity leader for products based on HFO 1234yf and this new facility will further strengthen the company’s ability to meet the growing global demand for Opteon™ branded products.

The Opteon™ portfolio of fluorochemicals from Chemours represents a breakthrough line of low GWP solutions. They were developed to help meet increasingly stringent global regulations while generally maintaining or improving performance compared to the products they replace. As the leading supplier of more environmentally sustainable foams, refrigerants and aerosol propellants, Chemours has invested millions of dollars to bring these new products to market and will continue to invest in new products and additional capacity as the need for low GWP solutions grows throughout the world.
