Glycolic Acid for Concrete Truck and Tool Cleaning

A Better Solution for Cleaning Concrete Trucks and Tools

In the past, the best way to clean concrete trucks and tools was to use hydrochloric (HCl, muriatic) acid. This treatment not only caused skin irritation—and even bodily injury—but the acid also damaged trucks, causing irreversible corrosion and rust. Any time an HCl-based product was used to remove concrete, more damage to expensive trucks and equipment occurred.

In contrast, glycolic acid-based concrete remover formulations are:

  • More efficient at penetrating and loosening concrete
  • More highly effective calcium-complexing agents
  • Significantly less corrosive than hydrochloric acid-based removers on most surfaces
  • Safer for personnel
  • Biodegradable

Glycolic Acid Makes Cleaning and Maintenance Easier and Safer

Chemours has been working for more than 85 years to develop high-performing solutions to resolve cleaning challenges. Both phosphate-free and biodegradable, glycolic acid from Chemours doesn’t accumulate in the environment and is safer for operators and workers. Its other characteristics include:

  • Low toxicity and corrosivity
  • Low odor and fumes
  • Nonflammable
  • Zero chlorides and phosphates

Glycolic Acid Cleans Without Causing Damage

Glycolic acid’s high water solubility and small molecular size allow it to penetrate inside concrete residues and react from within to increase the cleaning agent's effectiveness. This unique combination of properties makes it desirable for maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles.

Because it’s less corrosive than mineral acids, glycolic acid cleans metals and surfaces such as stainless steel, aluminum, painted surfaces, and most plastics without causing etching or damage.
