About Aniline
Aniline is also known as aniline oil, aminobenzene, benzenamine, phenylamine, and aminophen. When it is pure and freshly distilled, it is a colorless, oily liquid that darkens on exposure to light and air.
Aniline is miscible with ethanol, ethers, benzene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, and n-heptane. It dissolves in most organic solvents, but has only limited solubility in water at ambient temperature (3.7 wt% at 30 °C [86 °F]).
Aniline is a versatile chemical building block used in the manufacture of a variety of end-products, including:
- Polyurethane foam
- Kevlar® aramid fiber
- Pharmaceuticals
- Phenyl isocyanates
- Polyurethanes
- Dye stuffs
- Rubber chemicals
- Agricultural chemicals
- Other organosynthetics
