OUR GROWTH STRATEGY
Committing to grow responsibly by meeting the demands of our customers and the world.
As global demands grow, Viton™ fluoroelastomers continue to deliver peak performance under grueling conditions, empowering innovators.
The road to downsizing, turbocharging, lightweighting, and reducing emissions.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the Corporate Average Fuel Economy of automotive fleets will increase from 31mpg (or ~7.6L/100km) in 2016 to 46.3mpg (or ~5.1L/100km) by 2025.* This forecast, coupled with the recent enforcement of rigorous global emissions regulations, has given rise to automotive innovations. Manufacturers have been downsizing, turbocharging, lightweighting, and reducing evaporative emissions in an effort to meet the new regulatory demands.
With global vehicle production projected to increase by 25% by 2021, global demand for fluoroelastomers is expected to follow. To meet the regulatory pressures in the market, automotive manufacturers will rely on fluoroelastomers to enable everything from new powertrain technologies to alternative fuels.
Early advances towards these goals have resulted in powertrains that perform at higher temperatures under harsher chemical conditions, which are challenging the performance of the current materials. However, Viton™ fluoroelastomers offer versatile solutions that can be used across a wide range of applications under these new conditions.
That Viton™ can do this speaks to its very nature: The component helps customers bring their visions to life and perform exceptionally—no matter how harsh the conditions. The result: Whatever customers make, Viton™ makes it better.
The reason engineers ask for Viton™ by name.
When Viton™ was developed in 1957, it was meant to meet the needs of the aerospace industry for a high-performing seal elastomer. Since then, the high-performance fluoroelastomer has been expanded to many other industries—especially in the automotive, fluid power, appliance, and chemical fields. With over half a century of proven performance, Viton™ fluoroelastomers have developed a reputation for outstanding performance in high temperatures and extremely corrosive environments.
The superior heat and fluid resistance of Viton™ makes it ideal for withstanding relentless use in harsh environments. It is the fluoroelastomer of choice for our customers in the automotive industry in applications under these conditions.
Applications made with Viton™ fluoroelastomers are:
Air Management: air-intake manifold gaskets, turbocharger hoses, vent hoses
Fuel Systems: fuel hoses and seals, fuel injector O-rings
Oil & Grease: axle seals, shaft seals
Viton™ fluoroelastomers have offered outstanding resistance to heat, swell, permeation, and degradation when in contact with harsh automotive fuels, fuel additives, oils, lubricants, and most mineral acids. They also provide exceptional tensile strength, tear, and compression set resistance. These characteristics, provided across a wide operating temperature range, are the reasons why Viton™ is specified by automotive engineers.
Eagle Elastomer Inc.
Collaborating with customers to achieve exceptional results.
For 60 years, applications made with Viton™ fluoroelastomers have been used in the automotive manufacturing industry because they function in environments that would adversely affect those parts made from many other plastic and rubber materials. What’s more, our customers benefit from our technical support.
We are focused on collaborating with customers to find solutions that allow them to achieve possibilities beyond the norm. As we look towards the future of the automotive manufacturing industry, simplicity and flexibility will continue to be our guiding principles for helping customers address industry changes.
Indeed, as the global middle class grows, so too will the consumption of domestic goods, including automobiles. In turn, as manufacturers face increasing pressure to produce high-quality, low-emissions vehicles, Viton™ fluoroelastomers will continue to offer the strategic solutions needed to meet the shifting demands of the future.
