Teflon™ FEP chosen for lightweight photovoltaic cells
Filsol Limited of Ponthenri, Wales, has chosen Teflon™ FEP film as a substitute for glass in a lamination process to produce components for low power photovoltaic systems. Teflon™ FEP, which is used as the top layer of the module, brings a very high level of light transmittance in the operating frequency range of the solar cells. It is lighter and less fragile than glass and shows very little degradation over a long period of time. It also offers excellent mechanical strength and reliability.
The unbreakable solar panels are only 250 x 500 mm in size, weigh as little as 500 grams and can be combined with electronic components to provide roof mounted ventilation systems for motor coaches, mobile shops, trucks, ambulances and fire engines.
In fixed applications, they can be fitted to security posts, conservatories, warehouses and other types of building.
