Chemours Animal Health Solutions provides world leading biosecurity products and solutions developed specifically for disease prevention and control in livestock production facilities.

Hatchery Biosecurity

Standard Biosecurity Programme

The Chemours Hatchery Biosecurity Programme is designed to minimise the possibility of contamination from specific disease-causing organisms such as Salmonella and Aspergillus and reduce the overall pathogen challenge to the egg and embryo.  Pathogens could be introduced through various vectors such as infected eggs, personnel and equipment.

Control Points at the Hatchery

Modern hatchery design ensures that the hygiene of the egg is easy to maintain by;

  • ensuring that the work flow follows the egg from arrival through setting, hatching to despatch, with separation of clean and dirty areas.  Positive air flow minimises the risk of transfer of contamination from the hatcher back to the setters.

  • the use of material finishes on floor, walls, and equipment that are smooth and durable, and equipment including ventilation that can be dismantled for easy cleaning.  However, not all facilities have the advantages of these features, and in these situations it is attention to detail through training and motivation that will produce the best results.

Ensure that all personnel (staff and visitors) wear suitable protective equipment and clothing.

Ensure all staff wash their hands when entering and leaving the production area, and before chick and egg handling operations (traying up, setting, transfer, candling, take-off, sexing, vaccinating and packing).

  • Use Chemours hand hygiene antibacterial hand soap.

  • Ensure all personnel use a disinfectant footdip before entering the production area – replenish every 4-5 days or when visibly contaminated.

Egg Transport

Egg transport vehicles should be cleaned and disinfected between each delivery and collection run.

Use a suitable Chemours detergent solution, such as Neutrafoam™, and soak all surfaces of the vehicle including the wheels, wheel arches, mudguards and exposed chassis, allow at least a ten minute contact time before rinsing at high pressure with clean water.

Apply a suitable Chemours broad spectrum virucidal disinfectant solution, such as Virkon™ S, to all internal and external surfaces of the vehicle including the wheels, wheel arches, mudguards and exposed chassis.  Wherever possible, allow the vehicle to dry before use.

The specified uses and registered claims for Neutrafoam™ and Virkon™ S may vary from country to country.  Please contact Chemours Animal Health Solutions directly to verify country specific approved usages.
